I just got my free credit score and my free annual credit report. At one time, you had to be turned down for credit in order to get a free credit report. If you weren’t turned down for credit, you had to pay for a credit report in order to see what was on it. A lot of people did not want to pay for a credit report and score. They simply did not check their credit history. People with bad credit would apply for credit just to get turned down. They were able to get a free credit report, but they were jeopardizing their credit even more, as every inquiry is reflected on your credit report, and inquiries that do not result in credit being granted reflect negatively on your credit rating.
