The Florida Room

In 1970, when I first moved to Florida, I was first introduced to “The Florida Room”.

Up North everyone had family rooms or rec rooms, or even finished basements. But I soon found out that Floridians like their fresh air and almost every house had a screened enclosure with patio furniture and plants.

Most homes also had either bamboo or PVC patio blinds, to control the light while people were dining, sleeping, or just relaxing.

I learned to love those Florida Rooms so much that I’m thinking about selling my condo, just so I can buy a little house with a porch I can fill with fresh air, flowers, and light.
