World of Warcraft now has over 10 million subscribers. Apart from the fact that people find it fun to play, there is an added benefit: it has created many more jobs and opportunities for people in developing countries to earn a living.
We now have an estimated 500,000 people in China who play the game up to 12 hours a day farming gold, who then sell this gold to people in America for real life money. These chinese gold farmers are typically happy to make $150-250/month. That is not a lot of money for someone in america, but for someone in China, it is proabably more than they could make trying to find a job.
