Understanding Pilates

Starting with mat exercises is always recommended for Pilates beginners. Once you have gained sufficient strength and confidence you can graduate to using a Pilates machine. If you are training at a studio, you can make use of the mats provided by the studio. You could of course get your own if you so wish. Some studios also sell exercise mats. Once you move on to the Pilates machine, you would have to rely on the equipment provided by the studio. Ensure you have a trainer supervise your sessions, so that you can be sure that you follow the right methodology.
